The Stelle Group

                                                  STELLE, ILLINOIS 60919

Dear Friend of Stelle:

At his monthly Open House on May 1, 1982, Richard informed the community of a recent contact with his Teacher, John, concerning the need to separate the corporate headquarters and some tasks of The Stelle Group from the community of Stelle to ensure the success of both. This new direction will be introduced in the new edition of The Ultimate Frontier through the following paragraphs:

On March 18, 1982, Richard was met in Texas by his Teacher, John, outside of a post office where Richard went to deposit some mail. John directed him to move The Stelle Group’s offices and some of its members to the community being developed by The Adelphi Organization near Dallas. John also instructed him to open the community of Stelle, Illinois to any persons interested in advancing New Age concepts without their having to join The Stelle Group. This opened the way to make Stelle an ecumenical center of New Age thinking. (New Age thought is concerned with living in greater harmony with the natural environment, finding harmless, more loving relationships with one’s fellowmen, working toward inner spiritual completeness, and being responsible for one’s own life rather than yielding that responsibility to “experts.”) Stelle, Illinois is able to welcome other individuals, philosophical groups and other private schools into the community and allow others to build or buy homes in Stelle.

Many intentional communities have been formed for various reasons, each with its own particular slant on survivalism, religion, health, ecology, etc. Stelle is different from these in that it pursues a balanced, holistic upgrading of all aspects of living, which involves the conscious evolution of economics, politics, social structure, art, aesthetics, education, health, technology, spiritual and psychological growth, commerce, construction, agriculture, and futurist undertakings. Its people are practical enough to use anything that has proven workable in improving their lives and the environment of their community.

It takes a decade to get a city started, and very few New Age groups have been as successful as The Stelle Group in establishing the firm groundwork for such a community. Therefore, Stelle is seen as the place for conscientious people to relocate their businesses and homes in order to work with others of high practical idealism in applying ecologically sound, industrial technology toward the stable growth of this New Age city. Many groups and new churches, which may not have ten years or the expertise to establish their own cities, have Stelle, Illinois ready to accept them into an ongoing community of people working to establish a culture that transcends the mediocrity of mass-man. Stelle is envisioned as a cultural and educational mecca for the men and women who aspire to personal greatness. Advances in holistic health, and the spiritual offerings of many new and rediscovered avenues to self-awareness, plus personal instruction from higher teachers are all bound to make Stelle an inspiring Light Center unparalleled in the world. The consolidation of knowledge, resources, world lecturers, conventions of New Age groups, entertainers, artists, and scientists, will bring East and West to a common ground. Thereby the Brotherhoods, too, can reach more people than ever before who are ready for Their truths. In such an excitingly constructive atmosphere, everyone should be able to find the right growth-engendering programs to fit their unique needs at whatever their level of advancement.

In former years, before the separation of The Stelle Group headquarters from the community of Stelle, residence in Stelle, Illinois was synonymous with membership in The Stelle Group. However, the meaning of “membership” in The Stelle Group gradually changed, concurrent with the slow but steady changes in the members themselves as they applied the Brotherhoods’ philosophy to their day-to-day lives in the special setting of the Stelle community. The refinement of The Stelle Group’s evolving culture continued in pace with the ability of the members to gradually accept and exercise levels of community involvement and responsibility beyond what is normally expected of persons elsewhere in the country. Thus, as time passed, transition to life in Stelle became more difficult for, and seemed overly demanding on, most new people joining The Stelle Group who did not have the benefit of accommodation time as had the older members of the organization. Now, the cultural shock experienced by newcomers to The Stelle Group is ameliorated by taking up residence in the community in Stelle, Illinois as an initial step toward accommodating to the high expectations of The Stelle Group’s Lemurian philosophy. In Illinois they learn practical democratic functioning, how to hasten their emotional maturation, and acquire spiritual knowledge in a gradual escalation of self-discipline facilitating a smooth transition into membership in The Stelle Group. In addition, persons who positively contribute to the growth and development of the community assist The Stelle Group in furthering the Brotherhood’s work.

The Stelle Group sponsors general seminars for adults and also maintains its own private school in Stelle, Illinois which will accept applications from any who wish to enroll their children. The Stelle Group will also continue to accept new participants from among residents of the city of Stelle and from persons living outside the city. Life in Stelle is a dynamic, exciting frontier where everything is being re-examined in order to discard the useless and extract the best. Pursuing this level of excellence is a stimulating challenge, making everyone involved feel alive and valuable.

Some very specific tasks given The Stelle Group by the Brotherhoods are to be carried out in the private community in Adelphi, Texas. Residence in Adelphi will be limited to participants of The Stelle Group and The Adelphi Organization who are assigned to assist Richard directly in his work.

While we obviously have not had enough time yet to fully comprehend the myriad implications of this transition, everyone in the community seems excited about these new developments. I am pleased to report that we have already made significant progress towards identifying and addressing the numerous complex details required for a smooth transition. A new one-year plan listing all the various activities and persons responsible for coordination was developed and presented during a community meeting on May 21. At that same meeting, the community reviewed and approved a new general image for the city of Stelle prepared by a task force that synthesized the input from Richard Kieninger and from small group discussions held the week before.

This process provided an opportunity for everyone to ask questions and offer images for the future. Additional task teams have been established to focus on the areas of transition government, employment/industry, community development, education, and public relations.

The transition schedule provides a target date of December 31, 1982 for the actual relocation of The Stelle Group headquarters to the Dallas area. As a result of the changes directed by John, the focus of The Stelle Group will become more specific, addressing the tasks related to developing the technology needed to survive the events at the turn of the century and assisting Richard in the development of the island city of Philadelphia, while general community life matters will be the responsibility of a new community organization which will continue to be a participatory democracy in nature. Richard and The Stelle Group Trustees will determine which functions will remain in Stelle under the direction of a branch office. In addition to the Learning Center, The Stelle Group will continue to provide adult education programs in Stelle, particularly Orientation for Resident Associates of The Stelle Group. The Guest Week Program and annual Nonresident Associate seminars will also continue to be held in Stelle.

During the small group discussions, it became apparent that the residents of Stelle would prefer the growth of the community to occur in stages. The primary objective of this desire is to maintain a stable population of individuals who are in sympathy with the philosophy and world view presented in The Ultimate Frontier. For this reason, the community has decided to open Stelle first to Nonresident Associates, former participants of The Stelle Group, and others who receive the Stelle Letter. Because of this desire on our part, we would like to give those of you who may be interested the first opportunity to move to Stelle. If you would like to take advantage of this opportunity, please let us know as soon as possible. We will establish a priority system since the few available units and the existing lots that are ready for building will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis.

One of the most essential prerequisites to the rapid growth of Stelle continues to be the availability of jobs. The task team for employment and industry is exploring various alternatives for attracting industry to the area by promoting the many advantages inherent in the nature of the Stelle community. If you own a business (or know someone who does) that could possibly relocate or expand in Stelle now or in the future, please let us know so we may forward a copy of the presentation being developed by the task team.

We will keep you informed via the Stelle Letter of further developments as they evolve. If you have any questions or suggestions for any of the task teams, please feel free to address them to me. We appreciate your interest in The Stelle Group and the exciting new community of Stelle. Your continued support will further ensure the successful accomplishment of the Brotherhood’s Great Plan.

Sincerely,

Malcolm R. Carnahan
