Dear Friends and Members,

January 26, 1989 was the 13th Anniversary of The Adelphi Organization. over the years you have contributed your interest, time and money to The Adelphi Organization. We would like to let you know about our recent activities. Since the confusion and conflict around Richard Kieninger came to the surface again in 1986, it has been necessary for the Adelphi membership to deal with many challenges. The resources of the organization have been focused on court cases to ensure the democratic process outlined in the Bylaws of The Adelphi Organization and, to date, we have been upheld by the courts on every issue. We continue to be confident that, in time, all things work out for the greatest good of all concerned.

For years The Adelphi Organization, according to its Bylaws, has been democratically administered. However, due to the actions of Richard Kieninger and his remaining thirteen supporters, The Adelphi Organization is spending its donated money and the members’ energies in the legal system because a minority does not respect majority rule.

This minority of thirteen issued a “Declaration of Independence” on July 13, 1988 stating that they continue to support Richard Kieninger and the original purpose of The Adelphi Organization, have elected their own board of directors and have decided that they are the “true” Adelphi Organization. (In October 1986, Richard Kieninger severed all relationship with The Adelphi Organization, but he refused to step down as Trustee of the land.) On July 18, 1988, some of these people illegally entered the Adelphi Children’s Resource Library and secretly removed all of the library materials, approximately $50,000 worth, assembled over the last thirteen years. And, on July 18, 1988 they represented themselves as the Board of Directors of The Adelphi Organization and withdrew approximately $27,000, emptying our four bank accounts. We immediately moved to have those funds frozen and we are awaiting the court hearing for the return of the assets.

The other current legal cases involve the Adelphi land. Richard Kieninger is appealing the court’s ruling in favor of The Adelphi Organization that he be removed as Trustee of the Adelphi land. The court-appointed Interim trustee is concerned since Richard turned over Title for 33 acres of Adelphi land to his lawyer in payment of legal fees.

The Children’s Resource library continues to function since July even without the bulk of its materials. Through members’ donations of materials and those which are privately owned, the library still serves the children. The same twelve families (which are not associated with The Adelphi Organization) are still patronizing the Children’s Resource Library and continue to work together sponsoring events to raise funds to add new educational materials to the original inventory which, at this writing, is still unavailable to them. The Library Coordinator, Kitty Ring, opens the Adelphi office regularly for families to exchange the limited materials they have assembled. She also now publishes a newsletter for the participants and copies of the most recent edition are available to you on request.

Understandably, this letter covers only the outline of recent events. Please call or write for a letter presenting more details about our activities for the last few years. If you have any questions at all, we are happy to be available to answer them. We would like to thank you for the times you helped The Adelphi Organization through your support, your work and your donations.

Sincerely,
