Buddha’s Rule

Buddha had a good rule which I would like to pass on to you now though not verbatim. It is that if you are good at something or if you have a spiritual experience which you sense is out of the ordinary then never say anything about it except to your teacher. Never say anything which could seem to be spiritual bragging. It is the rule which all the Brotherhoods follow. If you are a Brother you never say that you are a Brother. Your development is for you to know not for you to try to impress somebody else with. Your strong point may be another person’s weak spot, but his strong point may be one in which you are weak. It is best that we do not pat ourselves on the back and say I do not have to study this Virtue: I have it already. It is true that the ones you feel weakest in are the ones you will require putting the most attention upon, but none of us as long as we live will ever come close to the full attainment of any other Virtues. The Virtues are pretty much intertwined. You can probably think of other virtues to name beside these twelve, but as you read the definitions you will find that all the other virtues you thought of are covered in some way.
