Astral Awareness The
question-and-answer session at the January meeting began with a question
concerning the mechanics of naturally intensifying the senses into extra-sensory
perceptions. Richard explained that character refinement gained through acquisition
of the Great Virtues is the antecedent of a natural breakthrough to one s
awareness of the astral plane. Although all incarnated Egos function through
three bodies—the physical, vital and astral—only the physical plane is
perceptible until the emotional vibrations are so elevated as to cause a
rapport between the sense perceptors respective to one’s Etheric and Astral
bodies. It is the effort to live a noble life when practicing the Great Virtues which elevates one’s character so that such a rapport
occurs naturally. The
natural breakthrough to awareness of astral surroundings comes about in an
entirely pleasant, gradual manner. This is not usually true of the
breakthrough achieved by various physiological excitations, such as have been
devised in yogic techniques which do not depend on
character uplift. The individual who follows the natural path is protected by
virtue of his Egoic advancement; whereas, the
techniques used by a person who forces a breakthrough can be detrimental to
him as a personality. Moreover, forced techniques which
open the individual to unseen influences against which he is unable to
protect himself can lead to possession by lower astral entities. The
only sure, safe path to Egoic advancement is the slow, time-tested one of
developing character and wisdom through virtuous living. Each
emotion generates a corresponding color in one’s astral aura. Positive,
loving emotions lighten and clarify the aura, while negative emotions darken
and cloud it. A clairvoyant is able to observe astral auras and can see
changes in the state of advancement as an individual matures emotionally. (01-1969) |
