Affirmations Q: How effective do you see affirmations and the positive
thinking concepts being used? Do you have any sense on
such things? Do you think or whatever? How effective is that going to be? RK: If you really do them, and you are consistent at them, they are
very effective because you are reprogramming your subconscious. Your
subconscious is the one that keeps you doing things habitually. If you
thought about everything consciously, you probably would not be a creature of
habit. Q: Why how does the subconscious get
programmed? RK: By all the things that every happened to you and your attitude
and responses to them. All you have to do is change your attitude or change
your response consciously and you reprogram it. So many people are born with
a poverty consciousness. They are convinced over and over again by their
parents that they will never amount to anything because they didn’t want to
do their homework when they wanted to go playing baseball instead: “You will
never amount to anything unless…” They keep hearing this
same thing that you won’t amount to anything. You say, “Well, gee, I want to
be a millionaire and do such-and-such,” and they say that you cannot be a
millionaire. It is not possible to be a millionaire. Only rich people can
become millionaires. Well, it is horrible, those ideas. And
you hear it all your life as a child and after awhile you begin to believe
that you really are, essentially, a loser. You never will amount to anything.
You can’t be a millionaire. And
if you believe those things they constantly keep reinforcing themselves. You
make them come true because that is what you are operating off
of: constantly keep proving to yourself that it is truth. And you
have to turn it around and reprogram yourself through affirmations or imaging
of yourself as being a winner, having the things that you want, having the
kinds of relationships with all the men and women in your environment that
you want that seem to be desirable to you, seeing yourself as having enough
of what you want, and going out and doing it. But, if you believe that you have to “live by the
sweat of your brow” and reach the age of sixty-five with maybe a hundred
dollars maximum in the bank and a big mortgage besides, if you believe that
is what you are going to do, then you will program yourself in your
operations to fulfill those things. All these secretive success
books and courses that you take all keep pointing out that people become
wealthy because they are programmed to become
wealthy. Nobody makes them wealthy. But, it you were born to a set of parents who said, “You
can have anything that you want. The world is your ‘oyster.’ Just reach out
for whatever you want.” If, better than that, you were born to parents who
were wealthy, then you could see it all around you because all of their
friends are the type of people who have the kind of attitude that says, you
know, I can do anything I want. If I want to start this new business, I go
out and borrow the money from such-and-such a place and may have some kind of
routine for paying it off so it almost costs you nothing, maybe tax
deductions besides, and they start the business with essentially without any
money and make money besides right from the beginning. They know the
techniques. They have the attitude that it can be done. All of the people
around them have been doing it. If you are born into that kind of
environment, you are bound to become rich because, “Well what else would I do?
That is just the way things are.” And that is why
people who are born into average parents and average circumstances stay that
way because they have been programmed to believe that they can’t do this and
can’t do that. It is really unfair. I think I mentioned before that everybody’s share of the total wealth that there is in this world, if you figure out what the dollar value is of all the natural resources that there are, your share is billions of dollars. You are entitled to that much. You can’t take it with you, but you are entitled to use it while you are here. You are supposed to. But, if you don’t really believe that, then just what I said is just a cute little thing, you know, but, it is in earnest. You can do what you want to do. It depends on what you want to put your time to. (11-1982) |
