Can People Change Their Negative Rearing? Question: Then
do you believe that people can change the effects of negative rearing? Answer: Yes,
you can, but the probability of a person doing so successfully is very, very
low. It is possible because we do have wills, we can change ourselves, we can mold ourselves into the image of anything that we
can imagine, but these are very painful processes and they can throw a person
into a continual state of adolescence. Whenever you change a part of your
make up, you have to rearrange your whole personality to come up with a new
dovetailed psychology. So the person who is continually improving himself
tends to be in a sort of turmoil as far as his emotions are concerned, but
this is what it takes for us to become better human
beings. It surely is not easy, but the rewards of being a whole human being
are worth it. Some parents have done such a brilliant job of raising their
children that they are whole human beings right from the beginning. As a matter of fact, the Lemurian civilization was like
that. However, our society is so warped and so perverted that we hardly have
any notion of what spiritual maturity really is; and since we are all in the
same predicament together, who of balance do we have
to compare against? (04-1973) |
