Atlantis Prior
to the destruction of Mu, what eventually became the continent of Atlantis
was but a group of islands. With the sinking of Mu, much of the floor
of what is now the North Atlantic Ocean rose, an inconceivable volume of its
waters being drained into the Pacific Ocean via the present Cape Horn, South
America and Cape Good Hope, Africa. At the same time, the waters of the
Amazonian Sea in South America were drawn into the Atlantic Ocean. With
this draining of the Atlantic Ocean, the land areas connecting the group of
islands of Atlantis were exposed, forming a small continent. That portion of
North America ending from the present Rocky Mountains eastward, as well as
the eastern portion of South America, which were submerged prior to the
sinking of Mu, also rose to become great tide flats covered with but a few
feet of water. Their full emergence and complete elevation to the status of
land area did not eventuate until the submergence of Atlantis. It
was inevitable that violent disturbances should occur throughout the world
when the vast Mukulian Continent sank. Other large tracts of land also sank,
and as they did so still other portions of land were forced so near the
surface that the draining of the Atlantic waters uncovered them. In some
places, land areas were split almost apart by great faults or crevasses,
while foothills and sometimes even plains were pushed up into mountain
ranges. The North American Rockies came into being at this time, and the
Andes, previously only foothills, were shoved un to even greater heights than
the Rockies. The sinking of the large land body so close to it also caused
the west coast of South America to rise so that from the Andes eastward to
the Atlantic coast, the entire continent became tilted. Of course, This
tilting was far from uniform and was most pronounced in that section now
known as Brazil, the western portion of which is several thousand feet higher
than its coastal regions. These
vast cataclysms covered a period of probably several thousand years all told.
It is small wonder that during these titanic upheavals and submergences, it
should be next to impossible for the benumbed and harassed populace to keep,
even in tradition, anything even approximating a coherent record. The battle
for survival left little time for anything else, it being truly remarkable
that such a large portion of human inhabitants managed to survive at all. The
many unreported gaps in this period resulted in some seeming inconsistencies
so that any attempt to piece those historical fragments together into a
semblance of sequence is impossible. As a consequence, the impression has
been that many of the events from the time of Mu’s destruction to the rise of
Atlantis as an empire were of such short duration as to appear almost
concurrent. In fact, all too many writers have condensed periods of a
thousand or more years into a matter of months, week, and even days, all of
which is reminiscent of the Biblical six days of creation. One
must use his common sense when considering this era of human existence. It
should be realized and understood that for such vast cataclysms to occur in a
few months or years would most assuredly have destroyed all life upon the
greater part of this planet—human or otherwise. Such great changes never
occur all at once, so to speak, but usually require many, many thousands of
years. And, even these slow changes are often catastrophic in their
consequences. Thus, we understand better why the Americas are full of still
existent “faults” and rifts that are constantly shifting as shown by the
earthquakes and other but little understood phenomena commonly experienced. Enough
is definitely known of this particular period so that we are able to arrive
at a reasonable approximation of the time consumed, and once geologists are
able to penetrate and properly explore the Amazonian jungles, unquestionably,
they will be able to find and classify much supporting physical data now
lacking. As it is, sea shells and other fossils are found around Mexico City
which, as we have previously stated, is now a good mile above sea level. The
same is true of the Garden of the Gods near Colorado Springs, Colorado, over
six thousand feet above present sea level. Mu
sank approximately 24,000 B.C. and Atlantis about 8,000 B.C. Considering the
incalculable destructive forces, many even stronger than our modern atomic
bombs, discovered and used in Atlantis, it is remarkable that the continent
lasted as long as it did. As
has been previously stated, that portion of the Mukulian populace adhering to
the belief that man’s chief end was to glorify the earth through the
development of its vast natural material resources, migrated eastward to
Atlantis just as those adhering to the “spiritual” dogma went to India. It
must not be assumed, however, that there was a sharp division of the two
factions, all the materialists going to Atlantis while all the so-called
spiritualistic ones went to India. This is not true, for prior to the
colonization movement inaugurated by the Mu Yans and the Cari Yans, each of
these countries was occupied by a populace of mired opinions. With the
colonization, people of both points of view settled in Atlantis and India
alike, and, certainly, with the mad scramble to find a place of refuge at the
time of the final cataclysms, there could have been no discrimination among
the masses as to the countries selected. At
the same time, the resulting population of Atlantis was a more nearly even
distribution of the two modes of thought than was true of India. This was
undoubtedly due to the fact that while it was necessary to cross about two
thousand miles of water to reach India, Atlantis could be reached via Mexico
which could be seen from the Mukulian Continent. The intervening distance was
largely mudflats, the shallow waters being crossed by barges at high tide. From
Mexico, these pilgrims fleeing from the earthquake-torn Mu, went on to South
America, and still following the footsteps of those who had preceded them to
Atlantis, sailed across the Amazonian Sea, thence the short distance to
Atlantis. Toward the last, with the final cataclysms occurring on the
continent, the great masses of Mukulians naturally fled into Mexico as the
nearest place of refuge. As the upheavals which were destroying their
homeland spread into Mexico, however, they kept on going, and because they,
too, had heard of Atlantis, felt they would be far safer there where they
could join others who had arrived before them. By
the time the destruction of Mu was complete, the earlier groups had become so
firmly established in Atlantis that they had become the ruling element. This
was perfectly natural, for as the industrialists controlling the big
manufacturing plants left Mu, their workers accompanied or followed as a
matter of course. In addition, their aggressive and very practical nature
completely dominated those of idealistic temperament. Therefore,
the thinking of those populating Atlantis was influenced toward the more
material aspects of life. As the source of the elements used in the
fabrication of the wonders of science they developed, the material phases of
the Universe were regarded as all-important, while the idealistic aspects
were ignored or regarded as of minor consequence.
This was a marked and radical departure from the balanced philosophy that
had made Mu the home of the greatest of all civilizations. Inventive
genius and scientific discovery cannot and do not provide the beginning
nor prevent the end of life. Beyond the "god of science," must be considered a
greater cause than that which the material aspect of the Universe can
provide. Nevertheless, Atlantis produced a mechanized power so far-reaching
as to be almost beyond the comprehension of our present day understanding.
With all our "patting ourselves on the back" today, so far as our scientific
research and inventions are concerned, we are but babes in the woods as
compared with the scientists of Atlantis and their achievements. We
shall make no attempt to enter into Atlantean life and living rather we shall
deal with the overall history. Our principal interest at this time is in setting forth the
causes that were responsible for the failure of the nation to recapitulate
the wondrous Mukulian civilization. Here you are given the opportunity of
seeing at least one great reason why nations that might have become great
finally sank into oblivion. We must understand why and how such contributing
factors come about and then endeavor, with all the force of our sincerity, to
build rightly and firmly toward that balance which was the backbone of the
Mukulian Empire. Through a labyrinth of twisted directions, misconceptions,
and outright prostitutions will be found the thread of Truth guiding us into
a greater and greater understanding of the true and basic philosophy of right
thinking and living. Unfortunately,
few of the Mukulian aristocracy had seen fit to establish themselves in
Atlantis, and only a sprinkling of the citizenry had done so. Therefore,
practically all the populace were proletarian among whom
there was the almost even proportions of the two ideologies: materialistic and
idealistic. Despite
the fact that the industrial element of the Atlantean Empire were out of
balance materially, their intense practicality and industrial experience had
long since taught them the value and importance of cooperation. They were
reasoners by nature, and their reason caused them to see and understand the
value of “team work.” As a natural consequence, and even though they had
grown to consider the “spiritual” or idealistic-minded as impractical
dreamers, zealots, and, in many cases, fanatics, they were clever enough to
come to recognize they also possessed characteristics and talents that could
be utilized, and so assigned them to positions where such traits could serve
to best advantage.
As you will have long since found, taken as a whole, the priesthood of Mu were a self-seeking group ever striving to gain their personal
ends through control over the proletariat. However, this does not signify that
there were not some Initiates and even Adapts among them who were impelled by
the highest of motives. Since these were the exception, however, they, of
course, constituted a small minority. The
majority of these truly spiritual priests elected to go to Atlantis, and it
was largely due to their influence during the early years of the forming
Atlantean Empire that the harmonious condition we have mentioned was
maintained. They were, of course, self-sacrificing and peaceful men who
placed the welfare of their followers above all else, and therefore, did all
they could to encourage this harmonious relationship. Because
of the respect and honor with which the old aristocracy and citizenry were so
universally regarded, the few who migrated to Atlantis were accepted as
leaders by both the materialistic and the Katholi Kist elements. It was they who
organized more or less haphazardly and loosely governed groups into a
coordinated unit, establishing themselves as a Council with an aristocrat
elected by them to act as their President. It was this Council that appointed
the governor from among their number for the various islands which then
constituted Atlantis, calling them Provinces. (It required many years following
the destruction of Mu for the Atlantic Ocean to entirely drain into the
lowered Pacific and thus uncover the land connections between the various
island groups, but their identity as Provinces was never changed.) Then,
the first Governors were appointed by the Council, they each selected the
most cooperative priest on the island as High Priest, giving him complete
jurisdiction over the remaining ones, a custom which was followed by those
who came after them. This proved to be a very good arrangement for the
preservation of a workable degree of barony between the materialistic and the
idealistic elements—by now commonly designated as Phree Masons and Katholi
Kists, the terms adopted in Mu. The industrial growth of the
forming Empire was thus greatly facilitated. Although
a period of several thousand years elapsed between the beginning of the
disintegration of the Mukulian Empire and the advent of Poseidonis, it was
about a thousand years after the initial Atlantean government was started,
approximately 22,500 B. C., that He appeared. Again, the great Archangel,
known today as Christ, came to help a civilization build toward perfection.
Just as in Mu, He became the first Emperor, holding the position for a
thousand years. This marked the beginning of real progress for Atlantis
which, as we have said, rose to unprecedented heights of scientific
achievement. Although
the Governor/High Priest arrangement resulted in a workable association
between the Phree Masons and Katholi Kists, unfortunately, it did not bring
about the much to-be-desired amalgamation of the two divergent groups.
Poseidonis devoted His regency to trying to restore the balanced philosophy
of Mu, and He was literally worshipped by the populace who
followed His edicts willingly and carefully. But
not even He, great Archangel that He is, was able completely eradicate the
deep-seated prejudices and differences which the split between the Phree
Masons and the Katholi Kists had engendered during the seven or eight thousand
years since they had become so pronounced in Mu. The influence of the
aristocracy and citizenry upon the proletariat of their own particular tribes
had served to check it somewhat at that time, but, on Atlantis, practically
all such restraint had been lacking during the thousand years before the
arrival of Poseidonis. As a consequence, the conflicting beliefs of each sect
ran riot until the populace was most hopelessly divided. Realizing
that the sharp division between them had become too firmly entrenched to be
eradicated from the consciousness of the proletariat, Poseidonis instituted
two systems of training, one for the Katholi Kists and proceeding from the
so-called “mystic” or idealistic viewpoint and one for the Phree Masons,
working out from the so-called “occult” or practical aspect. It was His plan
that under proper guidance the practical minded would be taught to reason
from effect to cause, thus developing faith, while the idealistically
inclined would be taught to think intelligently from cause to effect and so
develop the power to reason. Although
the two were guided by different methods at the start, after the first one or
two or three “Initiations,” which were in reality, sub-degrees, each would
attain sufficient balance to make him eligible to qualify him for
citizenship. The schools guiding them toward this end were Preparatory
Schools, operating under the jurisdiction of the Lemurian Brotherhood or
Mystery School, also established during this period. Among
His first acts as Emperor, Poseidonis had trained and appointed the first of
the Most High Priests who, unquestionably, was already very highly advanced,
giving him complete jurisdiction over all religious affairs. This first Most
High Priest then arranged for all High Priests to come to Poseid, the
Atlantean island upon which Poseidonis resided. Here, he instructed them in
the philosophy which he had been taught. From among others desiring
instruction, he selected a few offering the greatest promise, training them
to be teachers. These, in turn, trained aspirants for the executive and
higher positions in state and religious affairs. This training resulted in many
becoming Initiates. Thus,
by the time of the transition or death of the first Most High Priest, there
were competent Initiate Teachers ready to begin their work with those
aspiring to become citizens. From among these, Poseidonis prepared one to
become the second Most High Priest, adding complete supervision of the
Initiation Rites to his responsibilities, Since
Poseidonis continued to personally train all subsequent Most High Priests
throughout His reign, this arrangement proved advantageous for all concerned
and resulted in the greatest harmony experienced since early Mukulian days.
However, He only partially succeeded in regaining something of the balance of
Mukulian times. Yet, the Atlantean civilization ranks second only to that of
Mu. Many of the Mukulian aristocracy reincarnated in order that
They might help, and inventions and discoveries of Mu were
developed and perfected to undreamed of proportions. Among
the products of Atlantean mechanical and scientific abilities were the
vailxii—long, cigar-shaped craft, the capacity of the larger being two to
three hundred passengers with their luggage, although the length of the
average ship was about three hundred feet. These were usually used for air
navigation but they could also operate beneath the waters of the ocean. Their
height above or depth below sea level was governed by instruments known as
gravitational deflectors which not only placed the valix at the desired
level but maintained it there. They were propelled by a form of motor using
what were called “Night Side Forces.” A speed of approximately one
thousand miles an hour could be maintained. Radio,
television, wireless transmission of power, water generators, and countless
other instruments and machines not yet known to us today brought Atlantis
great power and prestige. However, it never attained the greatness of Mu, because like India, Atlantis was out of balance. Nevertheless, of
all civilizations since the Atlantean most nearly approximated that of
Mukulia. During
the second hundred years of His regency, Poseidonis started the construction
of a great Temple that He called the Incalithlon meaning, “Stone Temple of
God,” the Mukulian title for God having been “N’Kul.” In South America, it
became “Incal,” the people of that country calling themselves “Incas.” Since
the Cari Yan element who had migrated to Atlantis from South America formed
the preponderance of those adhering to the Katholi Kist belief, Poseidonis
elected to use the name “Inca” in naming the Temple. “Lithlon” meant Stone
Temple. The
Incalithlon was one of the world’s greatest architectural wonders and played
an important part in Atlantean affairs. The building itself was shaped much
like a pyramid although not quite as tall as the Pyramid of Gizeh, while its top
was flat rather than pointed and was landscaped as a garden. As its name
implies, it was built of stone and covered some twenty-five acres of ground.
It was five stories in height, each floor level completely encircled by a
beautiful garden, giving the entire structure the appearance of being
terraced. This
was the only temple in the Atlantean Empire and housed everything pertaining
to the neophyte’s education for citizenship. The main entrance was from the
south and brought the visitor into a magnificent lobby from which he could
reach the offices of those he desired to contact. Aside
from this lobby, the main floor was a replica of the Tabernacle, the Holy
Place and the Holy of Holies being combined into one mammoth Inner Sanctuary
occupying the entire center of the structure. Access to this was through
seven special doors of bronze, each a foot thick, thirteen feet high, nine
feet wide and weighing approximately twenty-three thousand pounds each. These
were placed in the east wall of the Temple and afforded ingress from the
Outer Court. This
great Inner Sanctuary had many points of distinctive difference from any
other Temple preceding or following it. Unlike the Tabernacle, admission was
granted everyone on certain days of the year, although Initiates were
permitted free access at all times. In it all coronations, worship services,
final trials in cases involving life or death, as well as all Initiation
ceremonies were conducted. Then
entering, it seemed as though one were in a mammoth cave festooned with
innumerable stalactites which, like titanic icicles of incomparable beauty
and color were suspended from its lofty ceiling. Since pillars were necessary
to support the massive dome, many of the largest stalactites were joined to
great stalagmites, still farther enhancing the natural effect. In
the exact center of the Inner Sanctuary, Poseidonis had placed a single slab
of red granite in the form of a six-pointed star, the distance across the
diameter from point to point being just thirty-six feat. In the exact center
of this star was carved a crypt where He had placed the Ark. This, as you
recall, had been sent to Mexico by the Elder Brothers before the final
cataclysms on Mu and later found its way to Atlantis as They intended it
should. Always considered as a shrine, the sense of its importance as an
object of reverence was greatly rekindled by this act on the part of Poseidonis. A five and one-half foot cube of perfectly clear crystal quartz upon the sides of which were etched the Laws of the Empire was placed above it. This was the famous Maxin Stone whose many points of deep occult significance become known to the aspirant only with advancement. Upon
the top and in the exact center of the Maxin Stone, Poseidonis then placed
the open book of laws He had prepared in His own handwriting as guide and
final word in all disputes and from which the engraved Laws on the sides of
the stone had been taken. Directly
above this Book of Laws, but not touching it, He placed the famous Maxin or
Unfed Light. Like a giant snakehead eighteen feet long without waver or
deflection by moving air, this pure, white light cast over the Inner
Sanctuary a soft effulgence of unmatchable purity. From the hour of its
placement there, no other illumination was ever required for that vast
concourse. Cast upon the vast array of many colored stalactites, the Light’s
refractions produced a marvelously blended array of spectral color bathing
the entire Sanctuary in a splendor of celestially iridescent rainbow hues.
But for this diffusion of color throughout the great room, the Maxin Light
would have blinded anyone looking directly at it. The
Maxim or Unfed Light was created by occult means and gave forth no heat and
was not electric. Any physical substance touching it instantly disintegrated.
The dead bodies of the High Priests and nobility were placed in it, and so
completely did it disintegrate them, resolving than into their basic Cosmic
Root Substance, that not even the ashes were left. Strangely
enough, the Book of Laws directly beneath it was unharmed by the Light, and
by certain processes known only to each reigning Emperor and the Most High
Priest, it was possible for either of them to turn the pages for reference,
but neither could remove this Book of Laws and live. Thus, the laws were
always available in their original form, yet indestructible and impossible to
steal. This safeguard was also extended to the Ark, for the Maxin Light
embodied the same occult protection that had surrounded the Ark when first constructed
for the Tabernacle back in Mu. Too
close an approach to the Light invariably resulted in petrification, the body
seemingly being converted into a type of alabaster, snowy white yet
translucent. There is a record of how, during the decadence of the Empire, a
conspiring priest sought to remove the Book of Laws only to be turned into
stone. The
Light was used as a final test for those on trial for major offenses before
the sentence of death was passed. Such a person was placed so that he touched
one point of the granite star, then asked whether he was guilty. If he denied
his guilt and was honest, the Light remained unchanged. If he prevaricated,
however, the Light instantly changed color. As
we have stated, Atlantis prospered greatly during the thousand year reign of
Poseidonis. All went well for another thousand years after His departure, and
Atlantis can be said to have attained great success at a civilization. After
this, however, there came about a gradual decline, beginning slowly and covering
a period of several thousand years. Minor priests, here and there, began to
plant seeds of discontent among the uninitiated proletariat just as had been
done in Mu, seeking and gradually acquiring more and more
personal power over their ignorant followers. It was one of these who sought
to gain possession of the Book of Laws in order to support their
impractically idealistic approach to life. Slowly and insidiously, this
ferment grew, the greedy priests gradually forming a separate priesthood and
multiplying their nefarious schemes. On
the other hand, the Phree Masons, fired by their external success, became
even more unbalanced, and gradually, grew crass in their materialism. In
their intense practicality, they carried it to the extreme and sought to
standardize everything. Homes in which the workers of the various industries
were housed, for example, must be built exactly alike and with no regard for
anything except utility. Beauty, which was so outstandingly a part of the
Mukulian Empire, became a matter of less and less importance until it was
completely lost sight of. The arts came to be regarded as of so little value
that artists and musicians became thoroughly discouraged, and with an
imposing number of their helpers and followers migrated to what are now Italy
and Greece, the musicians chose to locate in the former while the artists,
painters, and sculptors went to Greece. Forgotten
were the teachings of Poseidonis as the High Priests and even the Host High
Priests degenerated to the point where they gradually became a part of the
rising foment. Among the latter, however, was one Osiris by name, who held to
his high ideals and made desperate efforts to awaken the people to their
error. As a result he was crucified, though later he was deified in Egypt. The
rite of human sacrifice eventually reared its ugly head ... and the end was
in sight! Suddenly,
the Maxin Light and the Book of Laws disappeared. The Ark was removed from
its crypt and spirited into Egypt where it was stored in a now long-forgotten
Temple of Isis. (In all Egypt, only the High Priestess of the Temple knew of
this. She was warned that under no circumstances was this secret to be
revealed, nor was she to touch the crypt containing the Ark. A few years later,
she suddenly disappeared and then her body was found beside the crypt, an
expression of horror upon her race! She seemed to have turned to alabaster,
but when the body was secretly removed, it disintegrated upon being exposed
to the outer air). Not
long after the disappearance of the above articles from the Inner Sanctuary,
the same rumblings and land upheavals that marked the end of Mu began to
occur with steadily increasing frequency. Too late, many of the
terror-stricken people realized that nemesis was upon them, and a mad exodus
from Atlantis followed. Others refused to take these warnings seriously and
perished horribly when Atlantis also disintegrated and sank in the then
raging waters of the Atlantic. |
