Excerpts
from the Purposes of The Stelle Adelphi Motherschool by Linda Guinn Our goal in Motherschool is to begin working
toward the vision of life described in The
Ultimate Frontier; toward a world in which Egoic
advancement and the achievement of human potential can proceed rapidly and
smoothly. This vision embraces many facets of life including women’s role
preparing for child rearing, the importance of academic stimulation for the
growth of children’s brains, positive discipline, and fostering love and
emotional health. The
climate a culture creates for early childhood is of paramount importance to
the civilization as well as to each individual Ego, for the children
represent the future of civilization. As Dr. White stated: “Nothing
is so important to civilization as the proper rearing
of the succeeding generation.” WOMEN’S ROLE Richard explains this idea in one of his Observations: “The responsibility for
rearing the succeeding generation falls primarily upon women as mothers, and
their role as mothers is of far greater moment than men’s traditional role as
wage earners ... For the most part, the activities inherent in commerce and
industry are of little consequence to one’s Egoic advancement, whereas the
responsibilities of the parents toward an advancing Ego who incarnates into a
physical vehicle provided by them are of truly great importance in terms of
interpersonal growth and the continued progress of mankind.” “In the
Nation of God there will be a heavy reliance upon women as the transmitters
of knowledge and culture.” “People in Stelle and Adelphi are
encouraged not to marry too young and are enjoined by the Brotherhoods from
having children until they establish their marital compatibility for at least
three years together. A wife is expected to not have children unless she is
prepared and willing to personally lavish six years of intense, dedicated
education upon each infant and provide continual active support of each
(child) for twelve years thereafter.” TEACHING One of the most important things a mother
will give her child is neurological stimulation through teaching that will
develop his brain and raise his intelligence. As Richard’s teacher, James, told him,
‘All children have abilities which are not being developed because of the
culture’s mass ignorance. People now attain less than half their potential intelligence
because as children they are not given the right
kind of stimuli and guidance at the proper moments in their neurological
development. The optimum time for the introduction of mathematics and reading
is years prior to the time a child starts school at age six. A child should
be able to read well by his third birthday and be able to write well by four —
these are basic tools to the attainment of high intelligence. Math and musical talents are built-in abilities of the brain;
and, if the right materials and learning environment are provided, every
child has genius in these areas … but this requires much skill and almost
full-time attention on the part of the parents for the first five years of a
child’s life … To merely clothe, house, feed, and be kind to a child is just
so much warehousing of a young life, which does not provide the preparation
for the greatness we are all heir to. DISCIPLINE In a meeting with Richard, James
described the harmful effects of current methods of disciplining children: “Parents seem to be mostly concerned that
a child not be a nuisance and be well-behaved and adopt the parent s
prejudices. This is traditionally accomplished by literally terrorizing a
child to fit into those prescribed molds. No one should ever strike a child
or threaten to. To do so may assuage your impatience or
anger, but it inflicts long-term anxiety on the child and gives him a low
sense of self-worth that usually lasts a lifetime … Most school systems
traditionally employ a host of other negative reinforcement techniques to try
to get students to study and behave, but mostly they quash a child’s natural
love of learning and block his intellectual attainment through anxiety.
Western institutions succeed in making people feel guilty, afraid, unworthy,
and inadequate to reach out and direct their own destiny. The present system,
and the parents who conscientiously help perpetuate it, teach most people to
be failures and losers and, at best, mediocre.” As Dr. White put it, “Children learn best by observing good examples of the
behavior they are expected to emulate. Respect for elders comes naturally
through the parent’s earned respect rather than from fear of punishment.” LOVE Another vital task for parents is to lay
the foundation for their child’s ability to love. James told Richard, “Egoic
progress depends upon self-direction, freedom, and the ability to love oneself and others.” In one of his Observations Richard wrote, ‘‘It is difficult
to learn how to love and be loved if one enters adulthood without having
acquired a loving nature in early childhood … Acquiring this ability is
intimately tied to one’s achievement of emotional maturity and mental health …
There is a far cry between a woman fulfilling her maternal instincts and
being able to love her child ... A child is intended to take in love along
with his mother’s milk, and he quickly learns to love in return at a tender
age. The emotionally-mature, loving mother
rears children who learn how to love by example, and they come to expect that
the world is a loving place. Such children are a delight because of their
loving nature. COURTESY And, finally,
each home must strive to develop morality and positive habits of behavior in
children. Dr. White noted that “Courtesy is the
keynote of serene living. Children must at an early age learn to observe the courtesies which smooth the paths of life. In order to be
courteous, one needs only to consider first the effects that the satisfaction
of his desires will have upon others.” … These attitudes are best instilled
from birth so they become second nature.” “…the community’s high ideals will mold men in the image
of Christ. To be sure, training children to observe certain desirable
behavior cannot confer Egoic advancement to even a slight degree, but it will
produce a generation of men among whom advancement can proceed as readily as
in the ancient Lemurian culture.” The Stelle Adelphi Motherschool offers five
different ways to support and educate parents, especially mothers, for
teaching their children from birth to six years: ·
Birth Program ·
MISPAH (Mother’s Individual Staff Person at Home) ·
Mother’s Classes ·
Classroom Work (Including such methods as Montessori) ·
