Second Annual Autumn Conference in Stelle A Scientist/Philosopher Approach to Seismic Concerns by Vicki Matthews For over twenty years, The Stelle Group
has encouraged individuals to be seekers of truth in the manner of the
“scientist philosopher.” At this year’s Autumn Conference, The
Stelle Group hopes to convey to participants an experiential understanding of
what exactly the scientist/philosopher attitude and approach is. “To teach men how to
live without certainty and yet without being paralyzed by hesitation is
perhaps the chief thing philosophy can do.” —Bertrand Russell “All of science is concerned with, (caning to
know) the relationship of cause and effect. Each scientific discovery
increases man’s ability to predict the consequences of his actions and thus
his ability to control future events.” —Laurence J. Peters The context for the symposium will be set
by discussions of: ·
the value in being able to couple an open mind
with a healthy sense of skepticism. ·
the value of dogma versus clinging to dogmatic
thinking. ·
the value in myth, tradition and legends. ·
the necessity for continuous probing and testing
of hypotheses and assumptions. ·
the advantages of a mentally balanced approach to
choices and decision making; combining right brain with left, East with West,
and science with philosophy. With the context established, the use of
our scientist/philosopher approach for self-reliant thinking will be shown to
and experienced by the participants as they practice its application in the
review of information related to the nature of our planet, the potential for natural disasters, and the
potential for a global seismic catastrophe. The participants will also be
given an opportunity to apply the scientist/philosopher context to the
process of deciding for themselves what information about earthquakes and
natural disasters is reasonable and relevant to them personally, and what, if
any preparedness steps seem right and wise for than to pursue. The Autumn Conference will
be held September 5th, 6th and 7th in For further information, or to make
