Stelle

Students in Stelle studied the Middle Ages and the Renaissance including construction of model castles and period costumes, and discerning the differences between medieval and Renaissance art. In the unit on literature David Childress shared his experiences of writing and publishing his books, and Jennifer Cox taught the students to bind their own hard-cover books.

Dianne Frothingham gave a weekly architecture class for the older students toward meeting the high school architecture requirements.

Richard Kieninger agreed to attend a monthly question-and-answer session with the students to discuss their metaphysical questions.

In March we organized a Community Communications Workshop (attended by over 50 people). It was an opportunity for adults and children to practice communication skills together. The Workshop was preceded by a potluck supper and followed by a dessert social.

In April the ‘students created an evening of drama in Stelle with two plays:

Alice in Wonderland” and “The Velveteen Rabbit.” ∆

Dallas

The pupils of The Stelle School in Dallas studied Early American History and “Our Nation’s Capital: Washington, D.C.” They took a two-week trip to Williamsburg, Washington, D.C., Monticello and Mount Vernon. Each student shared his/her preparatory research at the appropriate place. Touring the capitol and interviewing our House Representatives made government real to the students. As well as visiting the museums, the pupils were fortunate to have a private tour of the White House. The students gained appreciation and awareness of the excellence in our American heritage and for our founding fathers. The merits of the trip lay not only in academic progress but also in meeting the challenges inherent in 11 people traveling and living together for two weeks. ∆
