PHILOSOPHY CLASSES

Philosophy Classes for the children of Stelle participants have been organized in order to teach the Philosophy of the Brotherhoods to our young Egos as rapidly and completely as possible. The principal objective of these classes is the nurturing of a firm foundation for responsible citizenship in Stelle and as such is a primary step in preparation for Citizenship in the Kingdom of God.

Children are expected to attend philosophy classes from the age of six until they are accepted as student participants. At that point, they will attend the orientation classes for new participants. Rules and expectations have been defined for the benefit of all participants of the philosophy classes in order to prevent confusion and to prevent situations from arising which hinder the purpose of the group. Copies of this material are available to any interested participant of The Stelle Group and are given to all students and their parents when the students enroll. Because of the importance of the philosophy classes to the development of Egos who will be prepared to carry on the role of Stelle in the Great Plan of the Brotherhoods, attendance at the philosophy classes is required of all children over six who wish to attend the Stelle Schools.

On the elementary level, students are given assignment sheets which are to be completed outside of class. These include Bible references to be read and memorized and questions to be answered. It is expected that parents will be aware of the assignments and will take an active part in helping the child prepare for his class and understand the material. In order to achieve the most from a class situation, there must be reasonable give and take among the participants which can only result when the participants understand the material.

On the secondary level, the students are given assignments of material to be memorized. These assignments form the basis of a discussion the following week. Emphasis in the secondary level is on understanding the significant aspects of the Philosophy and their practical application to daily life. The classes are also designed to provide an avenue for the questioning of the Philosophy which is necessary for most young Egos as they move from immaturity to maturity.

A number of areas of study and understanding are necessary in order to accomplish the principal objective of the philosophy classes. Philosophy lessons aim to hell) students understand the need for self-acceptance, self-esteem, and integrity, and how we can nurture these things within ourselves through the practice of self-control and self-discipline. This requires having a basic understanding of ourselves, which we can achieve by obtaining a simple, basic understanding of the nature of all people (i.e. all people get angry sometimes, all people have negative thoughts sometimes, all people make mistakes, all people are important, etc.). Once the children understand where they are coming from and accept themselves, they are taught how to change those aspects which they feel are undesirable.

The class room situation gives students an opportunity to broaden their perspectives of the Brotherhoods’ Philosophy by being able to discuss the Philosophy and its practical application with their peers and other adults. With broadened perspectives, students should be in a position to better incorporate the Philosophy into their lives and to truly understand Jesus’s comment to Mary “Wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?”
