ADJUSTING UPWARD Most persons who join The Stelle Group
experience a phenomenon which could be mildly termed “culture shock.” They
generally come to Stelle with the expectation of working hard and growing
Egoically, but often they do not realize just to what extent their attitudes
and habits must change in order to adjust to the Stelle way-of-life. In addition to building a strong and
lovely city, The Stelle Group has the responsibility of evolving a finer
culture than exists in the world today. Within 30 years, this culture must be
worthy of the name “The Kingdom of God.” In order to create such a culture,
Stelle members must be willing to put aside those aspects of their previous
lifestyle which are not in accord with the Philosophy or knowledge of the
Brotherhoods. This certainly isn’t easy, at first. We
come to Stelle with so many values and attitudes that seem comfortable and
right to us but which are merely the result of our cultural conditioning from
this incarnation. As stated in The
Ultimate Frontier, it requires much stamina and the faculty of adjusting
upward in order to assimilate new values and beliefs and release the old
ones. It requires a sense of humility to say to oneself, “Well, maybe I don’t
really know what is best,” and be willing to follow the customs of the group,
even when they are in conflict with one’s previous patterns of thought or
behavior. As a person begins to adjust to Stelle ways, it also takes a sense
of humor to regard his present errors and past foolishness with amusement,
rather than self-defensiveness or self-deprecation. Most Stelle members find that with the
proper frame of mind, the old-order ways are fairly easily given up, and as
they adapt to Stelle values, they become more positively-oriented and productive
individuals. This reinforces their belief and confidence in the positive
nature of Stelle and makes it a better perspective of the state of life from
which he has risen, and the desire to go back gradually fades away. ∆ |
