Can We Say Prayers for Other People?

Question:     Can we say prayers for other people?

Richard:       Yes, but you should always add the proviso, “If it be for the greatest good of all concerned.” In this way you are praying into the hands of the Higher Beings to make the decision and relieving yourself of karmic responsibility. It may not be for the greatest good of the other person to have an affirmative response to your prayers for them. (11-1972)

Praying for Others

Question:   If you say that nothing happens by chance, how do you pray for people who are very seriously ill or have had a very serious accident?

Answer:       Well, first you do so with certain provisions. To pray for a person or interfere in their environment in a way which you think is best, actually comes under the classification of sorcery—wherein through your mental effort you are able to influence the condition of the physical vehicle of another human being without their knowledge. Obviously, if you are in a position whereby someone comes to you for professional assistance, you have the right to do whatever you think is necessary. You can’t operate on them if they say no. The only case where this is allowable is when a person who has been injured has not regained consciousness. You then have to assume that he would want you to do whatever possible in order to help him survive. Under those circumstances you can pray for him to become well again. You need to ask yourself and the greater beings to whom you pray if it be for the greatest good of all concerned. It is just very possible that he may have designed his life’s end at this particular time for his own greatest good. And you could be interfering by making that body hold on when he would rather not. (03-1974)

Can You Pray for Other Individuals?

Question:     Can you pray to Christ to protect other individuals?

Richard:       This is difficult because you must first have the other person’s approval. In praying for someone else you run the risk of interfering with some specific goal or lesson that the person has chosen to accomplish, such as through an illness or a handicap. It is karmically negative for you to interfere with another person’s life in this way. When a loved one is ill, of course you will want to direct as much positive energy towards him as possible. Any prayer should contain the stated proviso, “if it be for the good of all concerned.” (09-1984)
