Meditation: Some Caveats Although
meditation has been discussed in several past issues
of The Lemuria Builder, it merits additional attention. The question arose at
the July meeting when a young man asked Richard why meditation seems to be played down by The Stelle Group. Only certain types of
meditation are discouraged, Richard explained—particularly that of
individuals seeking contact with spirit entities through meditation, These
people usually believe that the entities who speak to them must be God or one
of His lieutenants. We may be quite certain that spirit entities contacting
people in this manner are not Brothers or any other Higher Beings. Beneficial
uses of meditation are: seeking a peaceful state of
mind; sending forth love and good will into the world (but not toward a
specific individual, unless that individual has requested it); and developing
one’s ability to concentrate more effectively. Those who court “spiritual
phenomena” in meditation invite earth-bound spirit beings of the lower Astral
Plane to exercise thought control over them. Though some people indeed seem
to dabble in occult experimentation without suffering damage to their self‑confidence
and sense of personal identity, many less fortunate individuals are committed
to mental institutions after a few months or years of such “adventures.”
Virtually all mediums are eventually ravaged by
their repeated contacts with spirit entities. And
the result is insanity or an early grave. It is almost regrettable that there
are some persons who experience almost no adverse effects from their
experimentation with spirit entities since, like people who smoke cigarettes,
some are apparently not damaged by the practice, and
so others are encouraged to try it. Some people can smoke heavily to an old
age without illness while others who smoke relatively little may develop lung
cancer after only 10 or 15 years of smoking. Nobody knows for sure whether he
is one of the susceptible ones until it is too late to eliminate the cause.
The risks involved in seeking contact with spirit entities are far too
dangerous to justify any involvement with this practice. (08-1970) |
