Does Selling Drugs Cause Negative Karma? Question: Does
selling drugs cause negative karma? Answer: Perhaps
it is like selling knives. We know people can be hurt or killed by knives
even though they are used daily by everyone; but usually we feel safe in
selling them, and are without fear of karmic repercussion. However, if one
were to provide a knife to a man who is obviously going to use it for ill,
this could implicate one karmically. In drug abuse, the user is the
responsible party, but hallucinatory and intoxicating drugs are taken for no
other purpose. The seller becomes party to law breaking even though he is
supplying a marketing demand. Regardless of intention, negative results for
the seller of drugs are inevitable if a sale produces an end result which is
harmful to the user, or is not for his greatest good. For persons who are precariously balanced
emotionally, drug use can lead to a state of severe and permanent psychotic
depression. Some drugs cause damage to the brain which is ineradicable. All
these things should be considered when answering one s own question of
whether or not negative karma may be incurred by dealing in drugs. (11-1971) |
