Do Drugs Induce a Mystical State of Mind?

Question:   Many modern-day philosophers, Aldous Huxley, Alan Watts, and Tim Leary to name a few, say that drugs induce a mystical state of mind. What is your opinion?

Answer:     A mystical state is a function of Mind, and Mind, being of the Fourth Plane of Existence, cannot be influenced by anything on the physical plane. Chemicals affect only the physical brain, and while It is true that you can induce mystic-like experiences through drug use, they are valuable only Insofar as they provide a clue that there are realms of experience beyond the norm. Even though you may know from the use of drugs that another realm of experience is there, you should also know that the only way to controlled access to that realm is through the Mind. Sensations experienced on drugs are not Astral. LSD brings about altered perceptions of the world by rearranging experiences which have been stored in the brain’s memory bank and combining them with the perceptions of the moment so that they appear in an entirely different way. Enlightenment is not really there, but the experience may help to jolt some people into trying to find a better way. By merely swallowing a pill, a person may take a quick, exciting trip through many of the same sensations which others spend half a lifetime working to achieve through self-development and mental discipline. The temptation to substitute an hallucination the easy way can prevent many from realizing their potential for Egoic advancement, with the result that an incarnation is essentially wasted.
